Publishing of maps, courses and routes

On this page, you will find details about the new delayed event access, launching on 8 December 2025.

At orienteering events, maps and courses are typically kept confidential for competitors, spectators, and other stakeholders until a designated time – often coinciding with the start of the last participant. In Livelox, the event organiser specifies this moment, referred to as the publishing time, when setting up the event. Once this time has passed, maps, courses and routes become available in Livelox.

Delayed access

In certain cases, some users may experience delayed access to maps, courses, and routes until the next day. This occurs when all of the following conditions apply:

  • The user does not hold a Livelox Premium subscription.
  • The event does not take place in a country where the national federation provides all Livelox events free of charge. List of countries where Livelox is free of charge.
  • The event is not included under a club subscription from the organising club.
  • The event is classified in Livelox as a competition rather than a training.
  • The user lacks administrative rights for the event in Livelox.

If any of these conditions are not met, users will gain immediate access to the maps, courses and routes once the event is published.

Example of delayed access

Say an event is published at 14:00 on Sunday and your access is delayed – you'll see a countdown clock until 00:00 on Monday. After that, you can view the maps, courses and routes. Times follow the event's local time zone.

Purpose of delayed access

Delayed access was introduced to encourage subscriptions and support the sustainability of Livelox. As a freemium service, we rely on our paying subscribers to ensure the continued delivery of a high-quality product and to enable the development of new features in the future.

Why is delayed access limited to competitions?

Events labelled as trainings in Livelox are not subject to delayed access. These events are typically informal and aimed at young participants and newcomers, so we want them to experience Livelox immediately, without needing a subscription. By contrast, competitions draw experienced orienteers who take part regularly, and this group benefits from a year-round Livelox Premium subscription.
