GPS trackers for your club's trainings and competitions

Do you want to improve your club’s orienteering training technical level? With our new GPS trackers you can step up the quality of your orienteering trainings, offer a advanced learning opportunities and overall safety of the runners.

We offer a functional solution with our GPS-trackers model TMT250 manufactured by Teltonika in EU. A compact device weighing only 40 grams (dimensions 44 x 43 x 20 millimeter) and battery autonomy of 4-6 hours which can be easily carried by runners for example in their pockets. Once activated the tracker constantly sends the live position of the athlete to Livelox and is visible by coaches and spectators in real time during the activity and can be played back afterwards. It is a prime tool also for educational and safety purposes.

During O-Ringen in Sweden last summer, we let orienteers test and try the trackers during their race and thanks to the numerous positive feedbacks received we got the confirmation of the reliability and accuracy of the system.

Advantages of using Livelox GPS Trackers

  • It becomes easier for coaches, parents and spectators to follow any orienteering race or activity
  • The coach can give immediately some feedbacks on the technical execution of the exercise
  • You know when you can collect the controls and whenall runners are back from the forest
  • You can find and rescue any lost runners
  • The runner can ask for help by activating the safety button when lost or injuried
  • Can be used both for training and competitions
  • Compared to other personal gps devices, the trackers can be rented or borrowed to others

Mobile network

The GPS trackers use 2G-network (GSM) to send the position to Livelox. The accompanying data subscriptions are not operator-bound, which means that the signals are sent via the operator that currently offers the best coverage. The subscription works in Sweden and in the vast majority of other countries in Europe. Note that the 2G network in Sweden and many other European countries will likely be phased out at the turn of the year 2025/2026. After this time the devices will not work. Here is a background to the phase-out and country-by-country timetable. See the column 2G Status / Sunset Date.

Questions and answers

What happens if the tracker stops working?
Our GPS-trackers have a manufacturer warranty for production defects until May 2024.The battery have a limited warranty until November 2022. Should a tracker stop working, contact us and we'll fix it. During the year or so we have tested this tracker model, we have found that the units are very shock and moisture resistant, and that the battery life has not changed significantly.

How do I change the battery?
The GPS-trackers have a 800 mAh lithium battery rechargeable with the USB cable coming with it. When charging several trackers at a time, a USB charger with multiple ports is recommended, for example this six-port charger from Kjell & Company.

Do I need to buy a SIM card or a data subscription?
No. The SIM card and a pre-paid data subscription is included both when renting and when buying.

Does it come with a vest or a belt to carry the device?
No. A tracker is very small and can be easily carried in a pocket. Just make sure the pocket has a zipper! Otherwise, we can recommend buying some kind of simpler sports belt or bracelet, for examplethis waist belt from Kjell & Company.

Do I need to upload a map and a course in advance?
In order to take part in the live tracking, the map and courses must of course be in Livelox before the training. But if you're interested only with the after run analysis, it's fine to post everything afterwards.

How and when are GPS-trackers connected to a participant?
If a GPS tracker is always used by the same person, that connection can be made in Livelox. Then routes recorded with that tracker will always be linked to that person automatically. If GPS trackers instead is used between different people, the paring of the device with the runner needs to be done for each activity. It can be done before, during or after the activity. Each GPS tracker has a unique four character code. That code is paired with a participant in a class under the activity's administration pages in Livelox.

Can I link a GPS tracker to an activity organised by another club?
Yes. you can connect the GPS tracker to any open event in Livelox regardless of the organiser.

Can a Livelox activity contain tracks recorded with GPS trackers and other GPS devices?
Yes, is possible. Routes can be recorded in several ways in Livelox: with GPS watch, mobile app or GPS tracker. Read more about recording routes here.

Do the tracking device work abroad?
Yes, they work in all countries that have a 2G network. The SIM card has no operator bound and there are no extra charges for use abroad. Check which countries have an active 2G network and when the networks are shut down.

What happens if the mobile network coverage is poor?
The tracker automatically selects the operator that offers the best connection in the area. If the tracker nevertheless ends up in an area with poor connection, recorded positions are buffered in the tracker's memory. They are then sent as soon as contact with the mobile network is re-established.
